Course Curriculum

There are six modules in the course.

We will release one module every two weeks.

Each module will be divided into three parts:

Creativity, Technique and Demo.

Course opens for booking at 6pm on September 21st and closes for booking at 6pm September 28th

Course begins on October 2nd.

In The Love to Paint | Learn to Paint Online Course I  will show you how to paint using the wet or wet or Alla Prima technique of painting, using oils. I will share my techniques and my experience with you with video lessons and demonstrations to help you paint fresh, loose oil paintings with confidence.

Module One

Creativity

Feeding your Creativity: A practical approach

We know that finding inspiration and feeding our creativity is key. In this module we will focus on finding practical strategies to find ways to do this in your busy life that work in a realistic way.

Technique

Preparation:

Station set up. Paint, what to use and why. Palette, which to choose and how to clean, Tools, brush and knife and Support, what support/canvas to use and how to prepare the canvas.

In this part of the course you will learn how to determine what you need to learn to progress your painting knowledge and technique in a practical way within the demands of your life.  And, of course, you will be ahead of the game here because you are already taking this course!

Composition:

The principles of design. Eight invaluable tools to help you create strong composition every time and two rules every artist should know.

Creativity

Doing the work: A practical approach

Here you will learn how to set challenging but realistic goals for your artistic practice. We will work on a personalized plan for your development.

Technique

Sketching: On paper and transferring to canvas

We learn techniques to create process sketches to develop ideas and how to accurately transfer our final sketch to the canvas using acrylic or charcoal.

Creativity

Taming your inner critic: A practical approach

Learn to identify the voice of your inner critic and create a counter strategy that works for you personally. Where to find and use helpful constructive criticism and strategies for dealing with negative criticism.

 

AN INTERVIEW with a successful artist based in the West of Ireland, who is totally self-representing.

How he got started in his career and how he deals with protecting his creative expression while running a business selling his work.

Technique

Colour theory:

Understanding clearly the building blocks of colour theory. How colour relates to other colours on the colour wheel. Using a split palette to mix any colour.

Creativity

Finding your voice and style:

We learn the difference between voice and style. How to find your voice and develop your style.

Where the inspiration has come for her current series of work.  How she is managing the business of selling her work as a side hustle and a tour of her home studio.

Technique

Mixing Colour and Value

We learn how to mix the colours we see. Techniques for mixing paint and how to accurately mix a string of values for each of the main areas of your painting.  Learning to adjust as we paint.

Battling procrastination, motivation and getting organised:

How to deal with overwhelm, distraction and with being busy but not getting anywhere. Bringing clarity to your painting practice.

 

AN INTERVIEW with a working artist and mum (mother) to a growing family, who is combining painting, selling her work herself and completing a Fine Art Degree as a mature student.

Technique

Applying paint and Evaluation:

Techniques for using brush and knife.  Simplifying the painting process into three phases. Learn how to evaluate effectively as you go. Tips for signing your work correctly.
